Sofitel Darling Harbour

The Sofitel Darling Harbour is a striking edifice, with a glassed façade and triangular lines glistening with a thousand lights.

In 2017, Improvision Design was selected to complete detailed bar finishes complimented by banquette seating for the chic, modern design of Sofitel Darling Harbour’s Champagne Bar and the exquisitely refined space of the Esprit Noir Bar.

The Sofitel boasts Sydney’s largest champagne bar (seating 110) on the second floor providing the perfect vantage point to savour the world’s finest champagne.

With the promise of unbridled joie de vivre, it was important that luxury not be restrained, nor the breathtaking harbour view be impeded by furnishing in the Champagne Bar.

The first design element moderates the extensive glass by treating the large structural pillars in the centre of the room to a leather panel makeover. The leather chosen adds subtle softness and noise absorption to an otherwise hard interior.

Taking design cues from the parquetry floor, the bar fascia is detailed with more than 5,000 leather pieces adding texture and complexity to the overall presentation of the space.

Complimenting the Champagne Bar, the Esprit Noir Bar is located in the Sofitel Darling Harbour’s ground floor lobby. The bar is described as the place for stimulating conversations, micro-meetings, or simply sitting back and relishing the refined atmosphere.

Weathered timber floors recall the wharves and warehouses which once defined Darling Harbour. Improvision Design crafted plush leather furniture inviting guests to relax and indulge.

The project included the installation of three semicircle banquette lounges with tapered backs. The seating design enhances the height and airiness of the space whilst simultaneously softening the glass panels and providing a sense of seclusion in the open space.

Two generously covered structural pillars with detailed stitching provide a focal point for the bar heightening the sense of luxury and completing the polished ambiance of the space.
